Laptop screen is off but the power on is turned on?

I have a Gateway laptop M-series and it was working fine this morning. I came home today, pressed the power on and the screen stayed turned off. The wireless, caps lock, and number lock icons are illuminated with the blue light as always. Except now whenever I press the caps lock or number lock on and slide the Wireless switch, the lights wont turn off. I shut it down, took out the battery and let it sit for awhile but nothing works. I also left it charging and still nothing! Anyone know what's wrong?
